THE MAKING PROCESS:

Mongoose moon belts are all bespoke, made to suit your individual requirements.

  • I use a traditional plough gauge to cut a strap from the selected hide to fit your choice of buckle. Then I cut two narrow straps to make the belt keepers.

  • I chamfer and then coat the edges of the leather with a specialist gum. These edges are then burnished with a bone finder until perfectly smooth. Then I apply edge coat to seal the edges, usually 4 applications are required.

  • I punch a slot for the buckle spike and then attach the buckle to the strap using 5 solid brass rivets to secure it firmly in position.

  • I cut the end of the belt to an English point and then apply the same processes to the raw edges as above.

  • Next I punch oval holes at 1 inch intervals with the middle hole of 5 to suit your personal measurement.

  • Finally I polish both the leather and buckle.
